Benefits
De-sexing your dog can have multiple life-proving benefits. It can reduce behavioural problems like aggression and misadventure, unwanted pregnancies, uterine infection and generally lengthens their lifespan, reducing the risk of some cancers.
When to de-sex your dog
Discuss with your vet when the ideal time is to de-sex, this will be based largely on the breed and their mature weight.
Before & after surgery
It's important your dog doesn't consumer any food the morning of the procedure.
When it's time to go home, your pet will need to be kept fairly quiet for around 10 days after the procedure. A crate or a pen is a good idea for keeping your pet confined for this period of time.
To stop your pet from biting out of the sutures, it's important to keep a cone on them at all times. Your vet will provide one for you upon discharge.
You will also be sent home with some additional pain relief medication. It is important you follow the outlined directions prescribed by your vet.
