Weaning

Puppies naturally wean off their mother's milk at around 5-10 weeks of age. Once puppies have been weaned, fresh drinking water must be available at all times. DO not offer your puppy cows milk as this can cause gastrointestinal upsets.

Feeding your puppy

The basics of your puppy's diet should be a high quality balanced premium commercial puppy food that is appropriate for their life stage and health status.

Puppies should have 3 scheduled feedings a day. Make sure you know the total amount of food they need by reading the product label and divide that amount by the 3 feeds.

At around 6 months of age, decrease the number of feedings to twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening. Again, check the total amount needed for your growing pup.

Take your puppy to the vet regularly; they can weigh your pup, assess your pup's body condition score and provide advice.

Information is general advice, as each dog is an individual; please seek veterinary advice, particularly if your puppy has any special dietary needs or has a reaction to a standard diet.
